Review: The Flowers of War. June 9, 2014 By Truman. If there’s one highly acclaimed movie about the Second World War, it has to be The Flowers of War. Inspired by a novel based on a personal account of the wartime events, the film delves on the experiences of women when China was invaded by the Japanese and how the Nanking massacre occurred. 12/10/33 · The Flowers Of War is not a terrible film by any means – Zhang Yimou is one of the world’s greatest and easily most aesthetically pleasing filmmakers – but the juxtaposition of sexual violence with sexuality, comic moments and snappy dialogue often comes across as frivolous if not insulting to the memory of the horrific events of Nanjing. 20/02/24 · The War of The Flowers by Tad Williams This is a unique perspective on a Faerie that sadly emulates or mirrors our own society. You can depend on Tad Williams for both a good story and a skewed perception of normalcy. 26/01/33 · In “The Flowers of War,” the director Zhang Yimou revisits the 1937 Nanjing massacre in a story narrated by a convent student taking refuge in a church. The story of "The Flowers of War" itself is told from the point of view of a teenage girl named Shu (Zhang Xinyi), who was stuck in an invasion by the Japanese army in the city of Nanking - which was then the state capital Chinese - in 1937.

The Flowers of War was a historical Japanese imperialism film in which Christian Bale starred. Quite an odd placement for Christian Bale as this was a full-fledged Japanese film. Bale took the role and did a fantastic job with it. This movie was very well done, though it could have used slight editing marks here and there, throughout the film.
